The companies Enel, Eni, Leonardo and Pirelli received the prestigious recognition during the virtual event "Uniting Business Live", as part of the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations.
Since the first edition operationally launched in 2000, the United Nations Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world.
Each year the Lead recognition is for companies that have been most committed to promoting the ten principles of the Global Compact, relating to human rights, work, the environment and the fight against corruption, and which have distinguished themselves for supporting initiatives in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Global Compact business community counts the membership of more than 10,000 companies and 3,000 non-commercial signatories based in more than 160 countries and over 60 local networks: the mission is to promote the goals and values of the United Nations through responsible business practices.
Responsible companies adopt the same values and principles wherever they are present because they are aware that good practices in one area do not compensate for any damage done in another area. By incorporating the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into strategies, policies and procedures and establishing a culture of integrity, companies are assuming their responsibilities to people and the planet and pave the way for long-term success.
This year, during the event, the 'Statement from Business Leaders for Renewed Global Cooperation' was presented to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, a declaration promoted by the Global Compact and signed by over a thousand CEOs, representing more than one hundred countries : an invitation to companies around the world to align operations and strategies with the Ten Universal Principles.
