About us

The National Contact Point (NCP) is an institution established under the Ministry of Economic Development -  Directorate General for Industrial Policy Innovation and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (DGPIIPMI, Division IV) whose main role is to further the effectiveness of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises (Guidelines), a set of non-binding principles and standards for responsible business conduct elaborated by the OECD and directed to multinational enterprises and all companies operating on international markets.

One of the main objectives of the guidelines is to enhance the contribution of enterprises to sustainable development at a global level and to support their alignment to a responsible business conduct, integrating environmental and social sustainability into their business model and addressing the risk of negative impacts.

With the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development the international community reserved a fundamental role to company’s adoption of a responsible conduct, at strategic level, in order to achieve the Agenda’s ambitious sustainability goals.

The Italian National Contact Point is part of the international network of National Contact Points, established by OECD and non-OECD member Countries adhering to the Guidelines, with the aim to promote, at national level, the maximum diffusion and practice of responsible conduct standards.

The National Contact Points furthers the Guidelines effectiveness also by handling the specific instances submitted by stakeholders allegiing that an enterprise's non-observance of the OECD Guidelines causes or risks to cause a negative impact. By offering its good offices, i.e.  through mediation and conciliation, the NCP helps the parties find a consensual solution, compliant with the Guidelines.
